The average person can recognize many more logos than they can species of plant or animal. Among species identified, "exotic" species are more often known of than local species.
Might using logos help with tree identification, and also make us more aware of the corporatization and commodification of our landscapes? I created these logos to help people learn tree identification and also for people to reflect on the commonality of logos and marketing in their day to day lives. How is this affecting us and the way we interact with our world? I believe that knowing the names of things and learning to recognize them can help foster respect and connections between those things and us. It makes things more personal. I began this project after I realized how few tree species I myself could recognize. Mostly, I hope this project will help people learn the names of trees.
