Most trees are either deciduous or coniferous. Deciduous trees have leaves that change color and fall off in the fall, when it gets cold. Coniferous trees have cones and reproduce with seeds rather than flowers. There are other ways of classifying tree types as well. Evergreen trees, for example, are the opposite of deciduous trees because they do not have leaves that change color and fall off. Usually, evergreen trees are coniferous, but sometimes they are deciduous. Trees living on the equator, for example, never lose their leaves because it never gets cold. These trees are deciduous conifers. You will often find coniferous and deciduous trees close together. There are over 60,000 species of trees in the world. These logos only represent a few of the tree species that can be found in southern Minnesota. Minnesota has 52 native tree species, but you can find non-native species here as well.
